On Sunday we reported that a patient exhibiting symptoms not unlike those of the Ebola virus was transferred to Beth Israel Hospital from the Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates branch in Braintree. On Monday, Beth Israel released a statement pertaining to the patient’s condition.

The person being treated had traveled from Liberia and subsequently began suffering from headaches and muscle aches. It appears at this stage, doctors are confident the patient is not ailing from Ebola but will be kept in isolation until more information is confirmed.

Said Beth Israel,

Yesterday, we accepted a patient for evaluation of potential Ebola virus disease (EVD).

Our initial evaluation showed the likelihood of EVD to be extremely low. Today the patient remains in isolation and is in good condition.  We are taking all precautions to make sure the patient receives the very best care. No further information about the care of this patient is available at this time. We are working closely with the Boston Public Health Commission, the Mayor’s Office and the State Department of Public Health.

We want to emphasize, there is no risk to other patients, visitors or staff.  BIDMC remains open for clinical operations.
