Yesterday, we shared news about Winter’s Landing, a new city centerpiece for upcoming events taking place on City Hall Plaza (supposedly) this winter. The centerpiece would involve both an Olympic-style ice rink and a restaurant dubbed The Polar Bar. Essentially, it would be the ultimate adult winter wonderland filled with ice skating and brewskis in the same place.

But is it too good to be true? Maybe.

Currently, there’s a Facebook page dedicated to the so-called Winter’s Landing. And yesterday, a job listing was posted to Craigslist announcing an upcoming job fair for future Polar Bar employees. Unfortunately, it looks as though that Craigslist ad has disappeared.

The Boston Globe reported today that the plan is now on “thin ice,” stating that “a slew of permits must still be secured and an engineer must certify that the plaza can support the weight of the rink.” Unfortunately, that hasn’t been done yet.

Kate Norton, spokeswoman for Mayor Marty Walsh, issued the following statement to BostInno about the Winter’s Landing plan:

“Mayor Walsh has consistently spoken about exploring creative ways to activate the space in City Hall Plaza. The City has hosted musicians, supported a strong food truck program, and invited residents to a Donna Summer Roller Disco Party over the summer. We don’t have any news to report specifically about an ice rink, but we will share information as it is available.”

That doesn’t exactly sound promising. We’ll be sure to update you when we learn more about the status of Winter’s Landing.
