Faneuil Hall watering hole The Salty Dog is not facing eviction, contrary to an unsubstantiated report about the bar and grille’s business future under renovations planned for one of Boston’s most historic and visited sites.

Ashkenazy Acquisition Corporation, the Faneuil Hall Marketplace leaseholder, has not evicted The Salty Dog and has no plans to close the bar in the future, BostInno has learned.

On Thursday of last week, TheNorthEndWaterfront.com posted a blog—citing no particular information—that The Salty Dog, a Faneuil Hall establishment since the mid-1970s, would “reportedly” be evicted. The news was picked up by popular blog Boston Restaurant Talk on Monday, before subsequently making the rounds on Twitter.

Word that The Salty Dog is not facing eviction comes just hours after a Boston City Council public hearing on early-stage plans for the renovation of Faneuil Hall. Project architect Elkus Manfredi has produced renderings of the proposed changes – including a 180-key boutique hotel on the third, fourth and fifth floors of the South Market Building, a renovated Quincy Market food court, and new restaurants – which would ultimately force longtime retail vendors out of their spots.

Representatives of The Salty Dog were not immediately available for comment on Monday evening.

Kristen Keefe, the general manager of Faneuil Hall, said during Monday’s hearing that the number of pushcart vendors onsite would be reduced 5 percent.

Ashkenazy’s purchase of a the 63-year Faneuil Hall lease was approved by the city and the Boston Redevelopment Authority in 2011.
