Chances are, your commute into work wasn’t anything short of horrifying this morning. Whether you were stuck on the Red Line train that suddenly filled with smoke in Quincy or just stuck behind a massive snow pile as you tried to get to the office, there’s no denying that a major snowfall makes the days following difficult.

But The Lawn on D is looking to lighten to the post-blizzard gloom (even as more storms are expected to barrel in) this Saturday. The Fort Point entertainment spot is hosting “SnowMANia,” a snowman-building contest for adults and kids alike, from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31. Hopefully, you were able to get some practice in during this week’s snow days, because the snowmen will be judged and prizes awarded.

The event is slated to be the city’s biggest snowman building contest, with prizes given out for three different categories: Best Dressed, Most Handsome/Beautiful and Most Likely to Succeed. Clearly, potential builders should bring their imaginations, as well as some snowmen accessories: Gloves, hats, sunglasses, and the works. Snowmen built by kids 10 and under will be judged separately from the rest of the snowpeople, FYI.

During the event, which will conclude with the judging at 3:45 p.m., the Taco Truck will be on hand, in the snow, to fuel hungry builders.

This isn’t the first time The Lawn on D has welcomed guests for a winter festivity, despite the spot’s inclination towards summer fun. At the beginning of the year, The Lawn on D hosted a “Fire & Ice” festival, which saw an ice labrynth, fire dancers and bonfires in the winter cold (pictured above). SnowMANia is part of the Lawn’s “Winter on D” events.
