Downtown Crossing Station was evacuated due to smoke in the station Friday evening. Severe delays broke out on the Orange Line, and Boston fire engines responded to the scene.

MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo says the smoke was caused by a motor failure in an Orange Line train. The situation has been cleared and service has resumed, he said.

Boston Fire said the train has been isolated and will be taken out of service and brought to a repair yard for repairs.

One person was transported from scene, suffering from a “minor illness,” Boston Fire said.

On Thursday, a Red Line train filled with smoke at Quincy Station. Passengers and bystanders kicked out one of the train’s windows and attempted to pry open the doors.
