As of Monday morning, the National Weather Service is reporting that Logan Airport has already received 5.5 feet of snow this winter. With 12 to 16 inches of snow expected to fall by the time Winter Storm Marcus vacates the Boston area, total accumulations will match or exceed the height of New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman.

That’s 5 feet, 10 inches of snow, or 70 inches. Record-setting stuff.

This latest batch of winter nasty arrived on Saturday evening, prompting NWS to issue a winter storm warning for Massachusetts, as well as portions of Rhode Island and Connecticut. The winter storm warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Initial snowfall projections for this long-duration event had eastern parts of the state getting hit with 10 to 20 inches, and Greater Boston receiving as much as two feet. Some communities have already topped forecasted accumulations.
