Almost 24 hours after the National Weather Service issued a blizzard watch for Boston, the status of Mother Nature’s wrath has been upgraded to a blizzard warning.

It will go into effect at 7 p.m. on Saturday night and last through 11 a.m. Sunday. Temperatures will hover around 20 degrees.

The watch was previously for 8 to 14 inches of snow but the ante has been upped to 10 to 14 inches. Wind gusts are forecasted to to be between 30 to 40 mph with the occasional spike of up to 70 mph.

Eastern Massachusetts is expected to be the most severely impacted region of the Commonwealth, from Essex down through the Cape and Islands.

According to the NWS, “a blizzard warning is issued when sustained winds or frequent gusts over 35 mph are expected with considerable falling and/or blowing and drifting snow.”

Any vehicular travel is urged to be completed by late Saturday afternoon.

“Stay indoors,” notes the NWS.
