IBM Watson Health Is Getting a Kendall HQ

IBM announced today that it will open its new IBM Watson Health global headquarters in Cambridge. The HQ will be at 75 Binney St. in Kendall Square and will be home to more than 700 IBM employees, out of a total of 2,000 employees in the Watson Health unit worldwide. IBM’s Watson cognitive computing technology is used in health care to help with making faster and more effective medical decisions and other processes. — Kyle Alspach

Harvard Women Vie for Spotlight in All-Male Hasty Pudding

Harvard's big-ticket theatrical production, Hasty Pudding, totes itself as the world's third-oldest theater organization. It's also all-male, which has some Crimson women pressing for a changing of the guard. Reports the Globe: "In a quick-moving campaign that gained momentum through social media over the past week, at least 17 women at Harvard have signed up for auditions this weekend to perform in what many describe as Harvard’s most professional, prestigious production." >>> Read more hereAlex E. Tom Brady's Quarterback

Boston.com has an interesting look at Ben Rawitz, the Boston kid who rose from a Patriots marketing manager to one of Tom Brady's closest confidants. “My second day, I dressed up as the Patriots’ mascot and went to one of Mr. Kraft’s friend’s houses for a birthday party,” Rawitz said. >>> Read more here

Apple Announces iPad Pro, iPhone 6S

Apple made announcements including the larger-screened iPad Pro and the iPhone 6S line during Wednesday's product event:

  • iPad Pro is a 12.9-inch tablet that will start at $799 and is targeted for productivity and creative endeavors. The device has Retina display and has the highest resolution of any iOS device, according to Apple. The iPad Pro will be available starting in November for $1,079 (128GB), $949 (128GB) and $799 (32GB). The device will also work with a “smart pencil” ($99) and “smart keyboard” ($169). Read more on The Verge.
  • The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will include a pressure-sensitive screen that allows for new ways to interact with the device. The iPhone 6S will have a 4.7-inch screen, the same size as the iPhone 6. With a standard 2-year carrier contract, the iPhone 6S will run at $199 (16GB), $299 (64GB) and $399 (128GB)—the same pricing that was initially announced for the iPhone 6. Pre-orders start Saturday and shipping begins Sept. 25. Read more on The Verge.
