Lots of big personnel moves happened in the Boston tech community in June, including the departures of two female executives from local startups who are forming their own companies. Localytics and BitSight got new CEOs. Qstream added three executives.
Here are the top Boston tech hires, promotions and departures for June:
• .406 Ventures appointed Jon Marcus, founder and former CEO of Bedrock Data, as an entrepreneur-in-residence.
• 83North, a VC firm that focuses on Israel and Europe, named Joe Tucci, former CEO of EMC, as a special adviser.
• Akili Interactive made three new appointments: former Cubist Pharmaceuticals CEO Robert Perez will take the role of executive chairman, while Glenn Entis and Noah Falstein will be new executive advisors. Entis was previously CEO of DreamWorks Interactive and Falstein was formerly chief game designer at Google.
• Apptopia, a mobile app intelligence provider, hired Amit Phansalkar as its chief data officer. He was most recently the innovation lead for DataXu's data science and analytics team. Before that, he was chief data officer at MassMutual and director of data science at Millward Brown Digital.
• Babson College’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership appointed Smaiyra Million as its new director of strategic initiatives. Previously, Million was an executive-in-residence working with Babson students in CWEL and the CEO of Millennium Partners Sports Club Management.
• Bedrock Data has lost COO Amy Spurling, who left the company to start a new startup that she will lead as CEO. Before Bedrock, Spurling was CFO at Verizon-backed Jana.
• Biscom hired Bob Pratt as the new senior director of sales for its content collaboration solutions and Mischa St. Amand as its new director of marketing. Prior to joining the secure document transfer solutions company, Pratt held sales leadership positions at OptiSystems, ZixCorp, PostX and Accellion; and St. Amand was at CodeBroker and Philo.
• BitSight Technologies announced that Shaun McConnon is stepping down as CEO at the end of the month. Tom Turner, BitSight's COO, will take over as CEO while McConnon will stay on as the executive chairman of BitSight's board.
• BzzAgent, the social marketing startup acquired by dunnhumby in 2011, hired John Running as CTO. Previously, he was CIO of the cultural exchange division at EF Education.
• Crop Enhancement, a Cambridge agtech company, named Damian Hajduk as its VP of research and development. Hajduk was previously VP of food science for eatsa. The company also named Eric Flora, formerly of Pacific Ag Research and Dow Chemical, as field development manager, and Mark Russell, formerly of Syngenta, as market development executive.
• Cybric, a Boston-based cybersecurity startup, hired Carol Clark as the company's first VP of marketing. Clark previously worked in various leadership and management roles at RSA, EMC's security division, for nearly 17 years.
• Dockwa hired Lindsay White as its VP of customer success and Max Lahey as its director of engineering. Previously, White was director of operations for LogMeIn and Lahey was a software engineer at Stripe in San Francisco.
• Elemental Machines appointed Una Ryan to its board of directors. Ryan is currently a limited partner at Breakout Ventures and managing director of Golden Seeds.
• Endurance International Group, the owner of Constant Contact, announced that Katherine Andreasen, chief administrative officer and chief people officer, will step down in September. It's being treated as a "termination without cause."
• Flagship Pioneering named Stephen Berenson as its executive partner. He was former vice chairman of investment banking at JPMorgan Chase.
• GasBuddy promoted Miri Bauman from director of product design to VP of product design. Before GasBuddy, she was at Ready4 and Rethink Robotics.
• GE announced that Jeff Immelt will be replaced as CEO by John Flannery, GE Healthcare's current leader, effective Aug. 1.
• Grapevine, a Techstars alum that sold a majority stake to Chinese media mogul Bruno Wu earlier this year, hired Nick Chu as its director of product and user experience. He was previously creative director at Turbonomic.
• Horizons for Homeless Children appointed Chip Hazard, a general partner at Flybridge Capital Partners, as its new chairman.
• Kaspersky Lab hired Todd Helmbrecht as its SVP of marketing and Brian Anderson as its VP of online sales. Helmbrecht was most recently VP of marketing at headset manufacturer VXi Corporation, while Anderson joins the company from Avid Technology.
• Kuebix, a Maynard-based provider of transportation management system software, appointed David Lemont as its CEO. Lemont was previously CEO of Currensee, AppIQ and Revit Technology, the latter of which was acquired by Autodesk in 2002.
• Kyruus hired Soojin Ching as its first general counsel and chief administrative officer and Erin Jospe as chief medical officer. Ching was previously general counsel and SVP at Caradigm. Jospe held the same position at PatientKeeper.
• LevelUp hired Theresa Dold, a former senior-ranking employee at sweetgreen, as its VP of agency strategy.
• LiquiGlide hired Tom Britanik, a former SVP and CMO at The Clorox Company, as general manager of its consumer-packaged goods business.
• Litmus, an email marketing optimization platform, hired Erik Nierenberg as its new CEO. He was previously an SVP and GM at Lynda.com, which LinkedIn acquired in 2015 for $1.5 billion. Before that, Nierenberg served in a variety of roles at Salesforce.
• Localytics named Oracle veteran Jude McColgan as its new CEO, replacing the company's co-founder and longtime leader, Raj Aggarwal. Aggarwal, who helped found Localytics in 2008, will remain "actively involved with the company.” Before joining Localytics, McColgan held leadership roles that focused on mobile at Avast Software, Nuance Communications and TomTom. Prior to that, McColgan worked at Oracle for nearly a decade.
• Lola, Paul English’s travel startup, lost early employee and VP of Product Ellen Chisa, who left the company last month to found a new startup with Paul Biggar. Biggar was previously founder of San Francisco-based CircleCI.
• Markforged hired Jason Eubanks as its chief revenue officer. Before serving as a sales executive at Twilio, Eubanks had been a sales director at Cisco through the company’s 2011 acquisition of Meraki.
• Mautic named former Netezza CEO Jit Saxena to its board of directors. Saxeno has served on the boards of multiple local tech companies, including Actifio, Applause and Demandware.
• MOO hired Nick Ruotolo as COO. He was previously president of Vistaprint's European business.
• Placester hired Adam von Reyn as its VP of marketing. He was most recently VP of growth marketing at InsightSquared.
• Polis hired Brett Nielsen to head its new Salt Lake City office. Nielsen was previously SVP of strategic partnerships and business development at BestCompany.com.
• Qstream, the Harvard Medical School spinoff that makes sales coaching software, make three executive hires: Mike Provenzano as chief customer officer, Steve Preston as CMO and Tom Huntington as CFO. Provenzano was most recently VP of customer success at InsightSquared and Preston was SVP of marketing at Anaqua. Huntington — who was previously CFO and co-founder of Windshield, as well as CFO of Vela Systems — replaces David Stack, a longtime HubSpotter who also held roles at Localytics and EMC.
• RallyPoint, a social network for the military community, appointed Diane Hessan, founder and chairman of C Space, to its advisory board.
• RateGravity, an automated matchmaking service for mortgages, appointed David Cotney, Massachusetts' former top bank regulator, as its regulatory advisor. Cotney was most recently the Commissioner of Banks for the Massachusetts Division of Banks.
• Talla, which just raised an $8.3M Series A earlier this month, hired Catharina Mallet as COO. She was previously GM and studio head at King, the maker of Candy Crush. Before that, she was an executive producer at EA, the video game studio behind Madden.
• TetraScience hired Stephen Marks as its director of customer success and Dan Fields as a senior software engineer. Marks was previously senior director of customer success and business operations at BevSpot, and Fields was previously CTO at Polis.
• The Advanced Cyber Security Center appointed Kasha Gauthier as its director-in-residence for community engagement. Previously, Gauthier was CFO and COO at Boston cybersecurity startup Pwnie Express.
• TUGG announced that Elizabeth Dobrska is replacing Zoe Anetakis as executive director. Anetakis will take a full-time role at Accomplice and join TUGG's board.
• Turbonomic hired Alex Hesterberg to serve in the company's newly created title of chief customer officer. Hesterberg was most recently VP of customer success and technical field operations at Pure Storage, which competes with Dell EMC.
• Uber hired Frances Frei, a Harvard Business School professor, as its first SVP of leadership and strategy.
• Zagster, a Cambridge startup that provides private and public bike-sharing programs, beefed up its leadership team with three new hires: Ryan Hoppe as VP of marketing, Rebecca Castoldi as general counsel and VP of human resources, and Adrian Albus as director of growth strategy. Hoppe was most recently SVP of marketing at adtech startup Nanigans. Before that, he was global head of product marketing at Spotify. Castoldi was previously in-house counsel for Brightcove for seven years, and Albus previously led the strategy team at Zipcar. This comes after Zagster raised a $10M Series B in January.
• Zaius hired Adriana Zeman as its new VP of customer success. Zeman previously held the same title at Shyft Analytics. Before that, she was a VP focused on professional services at Acquia.
• ZappRx appointed Julia Austin to its board of directors. Austin is currently CTO at DigitalOcean and a faculty member at Harvard Business School.
• Zerto hired Avi Raichel as its new CIO. Before joining the provider of cloud IT resilience solutions, Raichel spent the last 17 years at Amdocs.
