It appears that there is more than just partying going down at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. According to two press releases sent to BostInno yesterday, Boston-based Skyhook Wireless has just announced partnerships with both Intel and Citysearch. Skyhook is one of Boston’s hidden gems: you may not know about their technology, but it quietly powers a lot of your apps and the positioning features on your phone.

Intel has licensed Skyhook’s Core Engine hybrid location platform to make it available to the Intel AppUp center. Skyhook’s location system will now be powering a wide variety of Intel architecture-based devices.

“Intel has shown great leadership in driving the growth of mobile computing and we’re excited to play a part in helping them to continue their efforts,” said Michael Shean, founder and senior vice president business development, Skyhook. “Intel AppUp center is becoming a big part of the rapidly growing consumer app market and we’re looking forward to working with Intel to enable location-based capabilities on a broad range of Intel-based platforms.”

Citysearch is also tapping Skyhook’s location engine by integrating it into its popular Mobile by Citysearch app for Android and the new Deals by Citysearch app for Android. Citysearch covers more than 75,000 locations nationwide and enables consumers to search for restaurants, bars, shopping destinations and more. The Skyhook integration will allow consumers to stay connected to these neighborhoods by leveraging their current location to find the perfect destination. The new Deals by Citysearch allows users to view nearby deals and save money at those locations.

“Skyhook’s location significantly improves the location accuracy and speed over the native location system in Android. Being able to pinpoint location within 10 meters means both travelers and residents can confidently explore specific neighborhoods, not just cities or states,” said Ted Morgan, founder and CEO of Skyhook.  “This is especially important for big brands like Citysearch who are looking to provide the best possible user experience and build long-term loyalty.”
