It looks like Listen Local First, the D.C.-based organization that celebrates all things music coming out of the District, will be celebrating its two year anniversary with a collaborative art and music event to commemorate D.C.’s Temporary Business and Entrepreneurship Act (which was passed one year ago) called ‘Red Tape‘.

The event, which will be held this Saturday (October 5th), is cosponsored in conjunction with the launch of D.C. Entrepreneurship Week and will spotlight the legislation introduced last year to help entrepreneurs in the city. Introduced by Councilmember Tommy Wells last October, the “Temporary Business Entrepreneurship Act of 2012” allowed entrepreneurs and small business owners in the city to test business ideas or innovative concepts with heavily reduced up-front costs while simultaneously utilizing the many vacant buildings and dead spaces in the city.

To properly celebrate this bill’s anniversary and the ability of D.C.’s entrepreneurs to cut through the red tape (hence the name of the party) of bureaucracy, Listen Local First and a number of other organizations (The Office of Council Member Tommy Wells, Raise Your City, DC Entrepreneur Week, No Kings Collective, Union kitchen, Listen Local First, verdeHouse, 1776, BBQ Bus DC, Pink Line Project and Brightest Young Things!) will be hosting a party at 906 H Street NE which will include an art presentation by the No Kings Collective, food from Union Kitchen and various vendors, and live music from The Raised by Wolves, The Walking Sticks, and ACME.

This will be one of the biggest gatherings of D.C.’s burgeoning entrepreneurial workforce and its growing creative class, so this is definitely one party you don’t want to miss.

So for those interested in celebrating D.C. entrepreneurship, Listen Local First’s anniversary, or really any aspect of the city’s unique arts and culture, I highly suggest coming by H Street this Saturday night and checking out the party.
