Sam: Anyone else’s baby kitten have their first hairball this weekend? No? Just me? OK, well, glad that weekend is over.

Now, on to The Beat…

Sam: We’re getting the band back together!

Oh yeah, sure, I should clarify.

Revolution’s Rise of the Rest tour announced its sixth leg today, with plans to journey through central Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin in October. This will be the first tour since “Hillbilly Elegy” author JD Vance was named a partner at the firm to expand the Rise of the Rest initiative.

Revolution CEO Steve Case and Vance will begin in Pennsylvania on Oct. 10. Here’s the itinerary:

  • Harrisburg, Pa., Oct. 10
  • Lancaster, Pa., Oct. 10
  • York, Pa., Oct. 10
  • Ann Arbor, Michigan, Oct. 11
  • Indianapolis, Indiana, Oct. 12
  • Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 13
  • Green Bay, Wisconsin, Oct. 17

During the trip, Case will invest $500K in startups across five regions, according to a press release. Google for Entrepreneurs, Salesforce for Startups, Village Capital, Startup Grind, Tech.co, The Economic Innovation Group, Engine, Startup Champion’s Network and Verge will all join this leg of the tour as partners.

Now, if you’re thinking “Huh, it seems like the cool hip thing for investors to just travel across America in a bus and invest some $$$ here and some $$$ there,” YOU WOULDN’T BE WRONG. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is famously trying to visit all 50 states in 2017 (but he’s not investing). D.C.’s own Paul Singh took his firm Result Junkies on the road in his Airstream to basically do a very similar thing to Rise of the Rest. It’s all for good reason: More VC dollars go to New York City, San Francisco and Boston than anywhere else. But it’s almost like roadtripping across the U.S. is the investor and entrepreneur’s equivalent of a recent college grad traveling across Europe. I’m just sayin’ Ż_(?)_/Ż

Elisa: Local data analytics company Crowdskout says the old ways of moving issues in this city are on their way out. Founder and CEO Zack Christenson started the company in 2014 to try and streamline data management for political campaigns, trade associations, advocacy groups — or anyone trying to influence policymakers or constituents.

The startup offers a one-stop shop platform that can be connected to any third-party app, which collects every bit of online and offline data that an organization may have, and then allows the client to analyze and aggregate any incoming data. Organizations can use the platform to inform strategic audience engagement and outreach, Christenson said. 2017 has been the company’s biggest year yet, he said, and they plan to roll out a few new products over coming months. Sam: You ever walk through a hotel and think for a minute: Is this where I live now? Do I even need to leave here? Well, that’s how I felt touring The Darcy luxury hotel from Hilton near Logan Circle last week.

One big reason for that is the strong presence from local small businesses and startups. UrbanStems hosts a periodic pop-up flower shop. Marcel’s chef Robert Wiedmaier is behind the hotel’s restaurant, Siren. Green Hat Gin partners with the hotel for its daily cocktail hour. Really, the list of partnerships goes on and on and on. Director of Sales and Marketing Kelly McCourt researched hella local companies to bring the hotel’s image to life. Oh, did I mention that The Darcy is, of course, meant to provides a glimpse into Fitzwilliam Darcy’s time living in England before he returns to D.C.? It’s pretty neat! Read more: How a New D.C. Luxury Hotel Is Amplifying the Local Startup Scene

Sam: Hey friends! Welcome to Monday! Tonight, celebrate a brand new week with some A+ art talk. Technology artist Drue Kataoka will discuss bridges, intersections and connections (and other similar synonyms!) at the Women’s National Democratic Club tonight. All the details and more events in the latest Inno Approved.

Sam: Hey y’all, I have a favor. Maybe you remember the podcast DC Inno hosted a little while back? I’ve been working to revamp and restructure it, and now, we’re in search of a recording studio to get this thing back up and running! Are you able to help? Send me a note (please).

Sam: Every time I search for the shrug emoji, this article from The Awl always comes up called “The Life and Times of Ż_(?)_/Ż” and it’s honestly just time to give it some love. What is with this weird little symbol anyway???
