According to CNN, two days ago the President took to YouTube to say in a video that  “There’s no single step that can reverse the effects of climate change. But when it comes to the world we leave our children, we owe it to them to do what we can.”

President Obama is expected to announce a series of lawful moves in attempt to combat climate change but will not require the direct approval of Congress. Of these are thought to include the possible regulation of new and existing power plants by the EPA in hopes of reducing CO2 emissions.

As noted by Dr. Jeff Masters, Director of Meteorology and board member of The Weather Underground, the President will not address he status of the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline between the United States and Canada, a hot button topic that’s been on the front line of climate change and environmental debates since its proposal in 2008.

The Sierra Club’s executive director, Michael Brune, said in a statement that “Establishing strong pollution standards for new and existing power plants is critical for protecting our families and our planet from runaway climate disruption and is something our coalition has worked mightily to achieve.”

Since January, environmentalists have called for the President to come up with some kind of means of addressing the constant threat of climate change and enacting legislation to curtail it by bypassing congress and the Republican-controlled House. He is expected to outline in great detail his thought process and strategy today.
