Robredo will look to build on past Wimbledon experience, having never advanced further than the third round, per his 2009 and 2003 appearances. Murray is no slouch, though, as along with his Olympic gold medal from the 2012 London games he boasts a 2012 U.S Open championship and Australian Open finals appearance as well.

Also hitting the court today is no. 4 ranked David Ferrer who in his first Wimbledon showing last year made it as far as the quarterfinals round. He has two semifinals appearances apiece at the Australian Open and U.S. Open under his belt which he will try to translate into Wimbledon success for his first Grand Slam victory.

His opponent, unranked fellow Spanish player Roberto Bautista Agut is new to the professional tournament scene, having attempted U.S. only once though not ending up qualifying, while making it as far as the second round in the other three major Grand Slam tourneys. A Spaniard v. Spaniard match is sure to be a big draw and neither will have the overshadowing of other Spain native Rafael Nadal.

Only one woman competing in the lady’s singles event owns a top 10 ranking today and that’s Petra Kvitová. A Wimbledon victory for her this year would mark her second in three years, having won the oldest professional tennis tournament in the world back in 2011. She also played her way to the semifinal rounds of both the French Open and Australian Open. She’ll be matched up with no. 25 ranked Russian player Ekaterina Makarova who couldn’t crack the third round of Wimbledon in her only appearance last year.
