Early this morning, a double shooting in Stoneham, MA left one man dead and another in the hospital. Police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 1:30am ET this morning and found 26-year old Joseph Puopolo, an army veteran having returned from serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan working with Special Forces, dead. Three people were arrested overnight, two in Stoneham and one in Medford, in connection with the shootings, according to CBS.

The man arrested in Medford, Aniston Harrison, is only facing drug charges, police told WBZ.

Puopolo’s friend who has yet to be identified by the authorities has been hospitalized and there’s been no word yet on his current condition.

Mary Beth Long, spokeswoman for Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, said the shooting took place early this morning inside a home on Micah’s Pond Way. Long also noted that the shootings did not appear to be random, according to the Boston Globe, which means the suspects may be able to be identified by the hospitalized victim.

The Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office will be heading the investigating and will also be handling all media inquiries moving forward.

Puopolo’s godfather, Joseph Alessandro, was available to comment and told NECN, “He wanted to become a state cop. He was a fighter, he wanted to be… You know this is just, it’s mind-boggling, I don’t understand what happened. I mean I just don’t understand it, a good kid like him.” He also noted that Puopolo was visiting the house where the shooting took place, and it is thought to belong to his friend who is now being treated in the hospital.

This is a developing story so stay tuned to BostInno for the latest updates. We’ll be sure to keep you informed as more details continue to be made available to the public from the DA’s office.
