The people of Boston will likely never forget the tragedy of the 2013 Boston Marathon, and in time, they’ll be able to relive the events on the big screen.

Screenwriters Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy, the pair behind films like ‘The Fighter’ and ‘The Finest Hours,’ have obtained the movie rights to the book that will depict the Marathon and its aftermath in full detail, according to Deadline. ‘Boston Strong,’ which is currently being written by Casey Sherman and Boston Herald reporter Dave Wedge, isn’t scheduled for publication until next year, but apparently, it’s never too early to look ahead to a movie deal.

As of now, it’s too soon to imagine the horrors that unfolded in April unfolding in a movie theater. Just this week, iconic victim Jeff Bauman took his first steps after losing both of his legs at the finish line, while the surviving bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was indicted for using weapons of mass destruction and killing four people at the end of June. The thought of turning the still-fresh wounds into a form of entertainment – even if its carefully and sensitively done – is unsettling.

But since the movie is at least a few years away, there’s time for breathing room between the events and their Hollywood reenactments. A lot depends on how the screenwriters handle their task – it’s going to take tact and skill to honor the week of April 15, 2013 properly, and a movie-theater depiction is far different than words in a book.

What do you think? Would you see a ‘Boston Strong’ movie when it comes out?
