The George Zimmerman murder trial, live streaming online below, is beginning to come to an end as final arguments will be presented to the judge and jury today. The defense rested their case yesterday with Zimmerman, charged with second-degree murder in the death of 17-year old Trayvon Martin, declining to take the stand and testify on his own behalf. Jury deliberations are set to begin on Friday, July 12.

According to CBS, Zimmerman’s defense attorney Mark O’Mara said at a press conference after court ended on Wednesday evening, “I think we have a very, very good chance with the jury.”

Zimmerman stands accused of murdering Martin though he plead not guilty to the charge and claims to have acted in self-defense when the victim attacked him first. If convicted, Zimmerman could face life in prison.

The murder case has captivated the nation because of its racial backdrop. The prosecution has been trying to paint the picture that Zimmerman shot Martin to death due to Zimmerman’s alleged ill-feelings towards African-Americans. However, in a big moment for the defense on Wednesday, Dr. Vincent Di Maio took the stand to testify for the defense as to the severity and nature of Zimmerman’s wounds as well as Martin’s wounds sustained by Zimmerman’s firearm. He noted Martin’s gunshot wounds as “consistent with Mr. Zimmerman’s account that Mr. Martin was over him, leaning forward when he was shot.” By that fact, it could be determined that Zimmerman did in fact act in self defense, having been attacked by Martin in the first place.

Yesterday, Zimmerman’s father Robert testified that 911 calls from the night of the shooting including screams of “help” were from his son, even though some, including the accused’s mother, claim that the yells could be just as likely have come from Martin.
