Microsoft’s Surface team is reportedly working on a smartwatch prototype. Previously, the smartwatch production was under the Xbox accessories team and the prototype was being developed with a “Joule” heart rate monitor.

According to CNET, the new wrist technology will run on a modified version of Windows 8 with the ability to integrate with other Windows devices. The smartwatch will boast 6GB of internal memory but will also rely on cloud storage, all the while connecting to LTE networks.

A report from AmongTech claims that Microsoft’s smartwatch will have removable wristbands that will be available in a variety of colors: blue, red, yellow, black, white and gray. The outside housing of the watch will be made of Oxynitride Aluminum which is 80% translucent material and 3 times harder than glass.  There have also been reports that Microsoft is requesting 1.5-inch displays from several component manufacturers.

Smartwatch news has been erupting over the past few months, with companies such as Apple, Samsung, and Microsoft all supposedly developing wearable software gadgets for your wrist. However, none of these companies have actually confirmed that any device fitting the rumored descriptions will launch.
