Here’s the interview with Norman Reedus:

The premise of the show is dominated by its setting, in a post-apocalyptic world. In that world, the most important aspect are the majority of the population: zombies. While most of the formerly human population has turned into zombies, there is a struggling group of regular humans who remain, and the show follows some of them in their continued effort to simply achieve survival. The characters beloved on the show are a diverse group, and the manner in which they work together, given the differences that some of them have, create the friction and drama that show aficionados adore.

It premiered in 2010, and quickly ratcheted up the tension as viewers tuned in each week, not entirely sure if their favorite chracters would survive. Unpredictability, which was a staple of the show early on, has persisted as a theme.

The Walking Dead, in its three seasons, has won a Writers Guild of America Award as well as a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Drama.
