Now that the birth has taken place, live coverage of the royal baby birth announcement will be streaming online below. It’s been confirmed today that the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton gave birth to a happy, healthy 8lb, 6oz baby boy.

UPDATE: President Obama issues statement,

“Michelle and I are so pleased to congratulate The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the joyous occasion of the birth of their first child.  We wish them all the happiness and blessings parenthood brings.  The child enters the world at a time of promise and opportunity for our two nations.  Given the special relationship between us, the American people are pleased to join with the people of the United Kingdom as they celebrate the birth of the young prince.”

UPDATE: Statement from Charles, The Prince of Wales:

“Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild.  It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.

Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.”

Months of run-up to the young prince’s birth were ended today as the chain of events leading to the royal baby’s birth began earlier today. Together with her husband, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, Middleton ventured by car to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s from the famous Kensington Palace. This report was according to the Duke’s office at Clarence House, which was announced at 2:37 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

All of the speculation around the royal baby has fueled worldwide attention, in a similar fashion to what the arrivals of Prince Harry and William (Middleton’s husband) did when Princess Diana gave birth to them. Interestingly, the royal baby is being born in the same hospital that his father and uncle were also born in.

Bookmakers will have to wait a little longer to find out the royal baby’s name, however, as it isn’t expected to be announced until the family leaves the hospital (at the earliest).

Immediately, the newborn becomes third in line to the throne after a recent change in royal procedure. This would have been the case regardless of whether the newborn had been a boy or a girl.

The glamorous Duchess was first reported to be pregnant this past December, when she was taken to the hospital with acute morning sickness. Since the initial report of her pregnancy, the baby has been arguably one of the most anticipated births ever.

The entire world is poised to celebrate after waiting on bated breath. But let’s hear how you’ve been tracking the royal baby and how you plan to similarly celebrate. Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and to all of our British brethren across the pond.
