LaGuardia Airport in New York is currently shutdown after Southwest Airlines Flight 345 from Nashville, Tennessee landed but experienced a collapse in its front landing gear. The Southwest flight’s landing gear gave out, causing the plane to require immediate assistance and evacuation. Authorities are currently at the scene, and early reports indicate there are no fatalities, though there are 3 injuries to report according to CNN. Southwest Airlines has not yet released an official statement on the incident, though they recently tweeted that they will address the issue shortly.

Here is a picture tweeted out shortly after the crash:

As a result of the crash, which occurred during the landing process, the entire airport is currently closed to all air traffic, and flights are hurriedly being dispatched to nearby airports who are attempting to accommodate them. LaGuardia, though not the size of nearby JFK International Airport, still handles roughly 25 million passengers per year. It has slowly established itself as the busiest airport in the Untied States that doesn’t have international flights since officially being named LaGuardia Airport in 1953.

The aircraft involved was a Boeing 737, which is part of the standard Southwest Airlines fleet.

This incident comes only shortly after another notable airline crash during what should have been a normal landing procedure, Asiana Airlines flight 214 crashed while landing in San Francisco. There were three fatalities as a result of the incident. The exact cause of why the Boeing 777 crashed into the seawall just short of the runway remains a mystery to investigators at this point.

On top that, there was also a recent fire onboard a Boeing 787 Dreamliner while it was on the ground at Heathrow International Airport in London, England. There were no passengers on the plane at the time, meaning that there were fortunately no injuries reported in the incident.
