With the Google-made Moto X smartphone’s release date approaching, new leaked photos of the Moto X have emerged before the August 1 launch event. With new camera technology and a near-stock Android 4.2 interface the new Moto X is certainly a formidable device in the handset ring, but can it compete with heavyweights like Apple’s iPhone 5 and Samsung’s Galaxy s4?

From a marketing standpoint in the United States, the Moto X is sure to be in the good graces of many as the execs at Motorola and its parent company Google are promoting the fact that it’s being assembled in Texas. Apple has been trying to promote its iPhone 5 in the same fashion but has been pulling in poor reviews and ratings. Being put together in the American heartland could make the Moto X more identifiable than if it were amassed in, say, sunny Cupertino, CA.

In terms of hardware, the Moto X will offer some customizable options for potential users with a spectrum of colored, kevlar backplates. The 4.5-inch 720p display is far from groundbreaking, though falls in between the iPhone 5’s 4-incher and the GS4’s 5.

Underneath the hood is a similar story as the device won’t turn any heads but is worthy in comparison to corresponding phone types. The whole thing will be powered by a robust 2,200mAh battery and run on a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, or so says Tech Crunch. Other rumors by the UK’s The Register suggest the Motorola faithful keep a keen eye out for a respectable 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, though don’t keep your hopes up for a microSD slot.

The big draw for the Moto X looks to be in the newest emerging market concerning smartphones: imaging technology. The Google-Motorola collaboration is expected to boast a 10.5MP camera with Clear Pixel technology. If the gossip holds true, looks for AOSP camera apps that are focused more on swipe gestures and minute cues such as a left side control wheel for adjustment features like flash, focus, panorama, etc; a swipe-to-zoom instead of pinch-to-zoom function; a slow motion video setting; and an operation that allows the user to access the camera app while the Moto X is locked by simply giving it a little shimmy.

There’s been no word yet on price but a leaked image from BGR suggests the Moto X is priming for an August 26 consumer availability but there are multiple conflicting reports as to which cell carrier will solicit the X, though it’ll likely be the usual suspects in Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.

Stay tuned to BostInno for coverage of the August 1 unveiling and the upcoming launch date as more leaked goodies are sure to come.
