At its New York City press event today, Google announced the release of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean alongside the Nexus 7 tablet. The long-awaited mobile operating system upgrade has been rumored for quite some time now, and Droid fans can finally rest easy as Google announce that it will be available today with versions for the Google Play Edition HTC One and GS4 coming “very soon.”

Highlights of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean include multi-user restricted profiles which limits access to specified content, a sound for aspect of sale systems and kiosks, for example. Security is in play here as it works for parental controls too. Bluetooth Low-Energy support will easily pair Android 4.3 with a fitness sensor for the workout-aholics out there.

Open GL-ES 3.0 allows for highly improved gaming graphics for games, among other aspects, including the ability to render complex 3D objects as well. Using this renders to default in 1080p.

The new Netflix app with 1080P streaming gives the Nexus 7 the distinguished device as being the first to support it. Look for seamless television and movie streaming with this.

According to Android Blogspot, the Notification access givers the users’ the ability to access and interact with the stream of status bar notifications as they are posted in real time. The user can then display them in any way they so choose, including the ability to rout them to nearby Bluetooth devices, and while updating and dismissing notifications as needed.

Other goodies include easier text input and a slew of new languages.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is available to download or update today and can be accessed through any Android-run device, though as noted before, special editions of the Google Play Edition HTC One and GS4 won’t be immediately available but will be soon enough, so hang tight.
