Admit it. You’ve totally daydreamed about a movie spawned from the likes of The Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. While yes, they’ve both similar in their gravity-defying special effects, one has Keanu Reeves in the leading role while the other boasts the majestic beauty of Eastern Asia. Mix them both together and voila, I give you the trailer for 47 Ronin, the latest take on one of Japan’s most treasured legends.

Watch the trailer for 47 Ronin starring Keanu Reeves here:

The story is about a band of samurai set out to avenge the death and dishonor of their master at the hands of a ruthless shogun. But this movie is certainly much more than that. Watch the trailer and you’ll see epic sweeping landscape, original spins on traditional Japanese attire, and eye-popping special effect fight scenes that prove yet again, Keanu’s still got some juice.

As for the Japanese legend, it’s so popular and endearing that there have been six adaptations of the folktale about 47 leaderless samurai prior to this Americanized Hollywood version, the others being The 47 Ronin, Chűshingura, Chushingura, The Fall of Ako Castle, 47 Ronin and The Last Chushingura.

The cast features Reeves in the protagonist role, thought there are likely no other names you’ll be familiar with. Five Japanese actors, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Rinko Kikuchi, Kou Shibasaki and Jin Akanishi were cast alongside my boy Keanue to make the story more authentic instead of picking actors that would be recognizable in the United States.

47 Ronin is set to be released on Christmas this year but stay tuned to BostInno in the meantime for the latest trailers and details as they continue to be made publicly available.
