Boston’s Seaport has been evolving into a lively destination over the past years; however, that was not always the case around town during the now infamous ‘Big Dig’ and subsequent economic recession.

As discussed in the Banker & Tradesman last month, the expansive highway megaproject provided the foundation needed to gain access to the Seaport area and catalyzed development of the often forgotten neighborhood filled with potential. Fast forward to the present and Boston’s Seaport neighborhood and ‘Innovation District’ are the topic of conversation. Historically the Seaport has been an industrial gateway for the city, but a transformation has been brewing for quite some time now.

The scenic city space is complete with incredible views of the harbor, fresh seafood, stylish retailers, and groundbreaking business culture, a perfect recipe to attract tourists and Bostonians alike. Spanning over nine city blocks – including living spaces – the area provides a magnificent skyline of the city as well. Whether it’s meeting for a business lunch, visiting a museum or gallery, or taking a stroll to watch the boats at sea, the harbor has plenty in store to discover!

Highlights in this lively neighborhood include:

 Legal Seafood Harborside

The Legal Seafood name is synonymous with fresh seafood, and this location is the quintessential setting for a remarkable New England dining experience. This is a seafood lover’s paradise from fresh fish to lobsters, the location is equipped with three stories each showcasing a different menu. But of more importance is the open-air deck and rooftop lounge during the summer months.

The Institute for Contemporary Art

Internationally acclaimed and nestled within the seaport district, The Institute for Contemporary Art Boston is a creative powerhouse. Visitors come from all across the globe to see what it has to offer. From hosting the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, to themed ‘First Fridays’ that include cocktails and live performances, this is a unique backdrop for a wide variety of celebrations.

Bank of America Pavilion

The Bank of America Pavilion is an outdoor amphitheater located on the waterfront in Boston. With a seating capacity of 5,000 it is one of the larger venues in the area. Located on Boston’s Fan Pier, adjacent to Rowes Wharf, this seasonal amphitheater is designed for easy assembly in the spring and dismantling in the fall. The high profile of the roof allows spectators to take in panoramic views of the Boston skyline and provides the height needed for sound and lighting equipment behind the stage.

The spirit of entrepreneurship is alive and thriving in the harbor side, with many jobs centered on innovation. The Seaport’s unique working environment is home to a variety of companies and provides ample space for Boston’s future businesses. In fact, Boston’s Innovation Center, named District Hall by Mayor Menino, will be home to city-wide start-up companies, with activities starting up this summer.  Babson College which is recognized as one of the top entrepreneurial colleges in the country has also opened a satellite campus in the Seaport to foster forward thinking.

Transportation to and from the area is easily accessible via the MBTA Silver Line and numerous bus routes, and provides ample parking for those driving in.

Restaurants, retailers, hotels, and museums give the area its distinct flare. Living and working on the waterfront is developing the culture of Boston in tremendous ways. Delicious food, shopping extravaganzas, and artistic explorations are all in store. The dazzling experience of Boston’s new and improved Seaport provide a great place to work, enjoy, and bask in richness of the city and we’re wicked excited it’s here!
