Edwin Alemany, the man charged in the brutal stabbing and murder of 24-year old Amy Lord, is expected to plead insanity while more assault charges are likely to be brought against the 28-year old, according to his attorney Geoffrey Nathan via WCVB this afternoon. Alemany is scheduled for another appearance in court on August 14.

Prior to his arrest, Alemany had been held as a possible link in Lord’s untimely death at Bridgewater State Hospital for a mental evaluation, though there had been no mention of a possible mental illness until now. Alemany’s attorney says that the defendant has made suicide threats and has been prescribed anti-psychotic as well as anti-schizophrenia medication in the past.

Speaking on behalf of Alemany’s parents, Nathan noted in a statement that “They have overwhelming remorse about anybody who may have been a victim of their son.”

Around 5 a.m. on Tuesday July 23rd, Lord was allegedly kidnapped in South Boston on her way to the gym, after which her bank account was accessed from five different ATMs in the area. She was then allegedly stabbed to death, and her body was found later on Tuesday afternoon in Hyde Park’s Stony Brook Reservation.

Lord was a 24-year-old South Boston resident and Wilbraham, Mass. native. She graduated from Bentley University in 2011 and worked at Genuine Interactive, a creative agency in Boston.

Alemany had been linked to multiple assaults on women, one notably in 2012 during which the victim was able to get ahold of his wallet with ID inside before being strangled to the point of passing out. Last week it came to light that now former detective Jerome Hall-Brewster did not follow up with Alemany regarding the autumn attacks along with taking series of other missteps, reported Boston.com. It was announced last Monday evening that Hall-Brewster has since been stripped of his detective ranking.
