Still pegged for the fall, the unofficially named iPad 5’s release date is quickly nearing. Though there’s been little said in terms of specs and price, the latest news comes in the form of a leaked picture well ahead of Apple’s flagship tablet’s imminent autumn launch. The latest snapshots come to us courtesy of Apple Insider via Macfixit.

The source in question is an Australian repair company which supposedly sold out the fifth-generation iPad’s front panel. The pics also display a close-up of the part’s flex cables, which look to be shorter than the current-generation iPad’s.

Apple is thought to be releasing a highly-anticipated next-gen version, of its iPad as the tablet hasn’t seen a refresh since last year. Most of the attention has been focused on the miniature version of the iPad, the aptly named iPad mini, of which two versions are expected to hit the retail shelves by the end of this year.

All we know concerning the iPad thus far is KGI Securities analyst Ming Kuo Chi’s prediction of an early September release date and the concurrent 9.7-inch screen.

The real drama has been centered around the iPad mini. Supposedly, Apple has been gearing up to release two versions this September, one based of the contemporary iPad mini that includes minor tweaks and bug fixes while the other is rumored to included Apple’s signature Retina display. The only trouble is, Apple has been reportedly running into snags when it comes to incorporating the pixelated perfection in the nearly two inch smaller 7.9-inch iPad mini display.

Despite these concerns, production looks to be in full swing after photos from last week emerged showing both the iPad and iPad mini’s anodized aluminum backplate which means the engineers over in Cupertino may have found a viable solution to their roadblock.
