Firefighters responded to a 3-alarm fire on Banks Street in Somerville this morning after a house went up in flames. There is no word yet on any injuries or fatalities, nor of the extend of damage to the homes involved, though one resident was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. At least five people have been displaced.

Somerville Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Sullivan III said  the fire initially ignited around 5am according to the Boston Globe, though Fox 25 News reports that officials responded as early as 3am. Nevertheless, Officials quickly responded and controlled the flames for a short while before subsequently spreading at around 6am. “One of the houses adjacent to 19 Banks Street sustained exposure issues.” Neither building will need to be demolished but there’s no word yet on the extend of the damage.

Boston, Cambridge, Medford, and Everett fire crews assisted in battling the blaze, the Globe continued.

The cause of the fire has also yet to be determined at this point and the investigation is ongoing.

The blaze comes just more than two weeks after a massive 7-alarm fire ravaged a nearby neighborhood in Somerville. Five buildings were damaged, two to the point of demolition, and upward of 40 residents were displaced. The smell of smoke reached waking residents in Cambridge, Brookline, and Boston.
