Ahead of the new iPhone 5S release date on September 10, spec reports are emerging that the upcoming smartphone by Apple could be made available with a gold color option and an unprecedented 128GB of internal storage. The speculation comes courtesy of perpetual predictor Ming Chi Kuo, KGI Securities analyst extraordinaire, who has a propensity for prophecy.

Apple traditionally releases its iPhones in its signature black and white style, so allowing for the additional gold option is an intriguing move to say the least. According to fan blog Mac Rumors, the analyst noted “We also forecast the new model will add a new look, a golden casing, and a new option for larger 128GB storage, to offer greater differentiation from iPhone 5.”

But does Apple really need to distinguish that distinctly between the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S? After all, not only will these new color options and storage space be readily available for Apple fans to pounce on the way the entire Boston Metropolitan region is sure to pounce on free frozen yogurt today, but it also looks to carry the much debated fingerprint sensor embedded within the redesigned home button. And then there’s the rumor that Apple may discontinue the manufacturing of its iPhone 5 completely, rendering absolutely no need for a differentiation should this speculation be hold true.

Kuo attempts to put a few more additional pieces of gossip to bed with his report, observing that Apple may include a next-generation A7 system-on-chip design with 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM, according to Apple Insider,  as opposed to the previously thought 2GB as well as the upcoming handset’s lack of NFC capability which it looks to address with iOS 7’s Airdrop feature.

Other items to keep an eye out for with the iPhone 5S are a dual LED flash 12mp rear-facing camera and a slimmer bezel, though surely Tim Cook and company have a surprise up their sleeve for the purported September 10 release date, which apple has yet to officially confirm.
