Tonight is WWE Summerslam 2013, the start time of which is for 8pm ET at the Staples Center in Los Angeles California and available to watch at home on pay-per-view.  It will be the twenty-sixth annual SummerSlam, and the fifth consecutive one to be held at the Staples Center. The main event of the show pits WWE champion John Cena against Daniel Bryan with Triple H as the guest referee.

In July, General Manager Brad Maddox announced that he would allow the champ Cena to choose his own opponent to vie for his world heavyweight belt and after asking the audience, Cena chose Bryan to as his challenger for tonight’s main event. Maddox gad even offered his own services as the guest referee but after Triple H saw him interfere in a Bryan match that saw him lose, the former champion stepped in.

The other fights filling out the match card include United States Champion Dean Ambrose vs. Rob Van Dam (Kickoff Match), Natalya vs. Brie Bella, Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn vs. AJ Lee and Big E. Langston, Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow, Kane vs. Bray Wyatt (Ring of Fire Match, Brock Lesnar vs. CM Pun, World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian.

According to WWE writer John Clapp, “In naming the submission specialist as his No. 1 contender, Cena showed no small amount of respect for Bryan and the WWE Universe. Before making his decision, Cena polled the WWE Universe on the July 15 edition of Raw, taking their opinion into consideration. Few can deny that Cena chose wisely, as the WWE Universe chanted ‘Yes!’ along with Bryan.”
