UPDATE: Manager Jonathan Baruch said in a statement,

“It is with great sadness that I announce that Lee Thompson Young tragically took his own life this morning. Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will truly be missed. We ask that you please respect the privacy of his family and friends at this very difficult time”

This morning Lee Thompson Young, former Disney channel star, was found dead in his Los Angeles home at the age of 29. Sources are currently telling TMZ that Young’s body was discovered with a gun shot wound that appears to be self-inflicted. His body was supposedly found by his landlord.

Young most recently appeared on the television show Rizzoli & Isles but is arguably most recognized by millenials for his role in the Disney original series The Famous Jett Jackson as an adolescent actor who makes an attempt at a regular, small town life. He also had a supporting part in West Texas football flick Friday Night Lights were he played backup running back Chris Comer who skyrockets to local superstardom after the two players in front of him on the depth chart come down with season-ending injuries.

His filmography is riddled with many supporting roles that span both the TV and feature film realm. He appeared in shows like FlashForward and the comedy Scrubs also logging screen time in movies like Akelah and the Bee and The Hills Have Eyes 2.

Young was born in the capital city of Columbia, South Carolina. Upon his parents’ divorce he was forced to live with his grandmother but eventually took to acting at a young age, portraying Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a play called A Night of Stars and Dreams at the age of 10. So says his Wikipedia page biography, “After doing community theater for a while, he traveled to New York during the spring break of 1996 and secured an agent” and after a year of searching, secured the role of Jett Jackson.
