At the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards last night, *NSYNC reunited for a VMA performance that made millennial girls swoon like it was 1999. It was rumored heading into the award show event that the popular boy band of old would convene again to belt out renditions of “Girlfriend” and “Bye Bye Bye” more than a decade since the inaugurated the tracks in 2001 and 2003 respectively. Check out the video below to watch the 2013 *NSYNC VMA performance.

I can’t imagine the crowd was completely satisfied though as the band performed snippets of each song before disappearing into the dark, misty stage from where those not nicknamed JT came from as fast as it took Miley Cyrus to drop her clothes and twerk all over Robin Thicke. Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick all joined multi-nominee Justin Timberlake front and center at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

The occasion of the reunion was due to Timberlake’s being bestowed the honor of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award. He was also up for Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Pop Video, and Best Editing for Mirrors, and Best Collaboration and Best Direction for Suit & Tie with Jay-Z.

Possibly the only part(s) of the show to overshadow *NSYNC’s blast from the past were scandalous gross performances Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry who each donned as little clothes as possible for their respective performances at the VMAs, though it should be noted that all three have an upcoming album ready to hit the airwaves so it should come as no surprise that each are vying for everyone’s attention, no matter the striking lack of shame involved.
