Closing out MTV’s award show last night was a Katy Perry VMA performance in front of the Brooklyn Bridge. Rather than bow to normalcy and perform on stage at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center with as little clothing as possible, Perry donned an animal print sports bra and boxing shorts in a makeshift ring at Brooklyn Bridge Park just in front of New York’s iconic suspension overpass.

Perry closed out the show with a performance of her new single Roar though the venue of choice wasn’t revealed until the rendition was underway. MTV teased that Perry would sing from an “undisclosed location” in Brooklyn prior to the event, says the Huffington Post.

Watch the Katy Perry VMA performance here:

Perry was surprisingly modest in her garb while the likes of Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga opted for something a little less conservative. The buxom Roar singer is no stranger to baring a little skin, though her athletic gear at the VMAs flew far under a radar that saw the likes of Cyrus twerk all over Robin Thicke after ripping off a teddy bear-clad leotard and Lady Gaga go from wearing a box on her head, to a onesie, to a sparkly blue power-suit, to a yellow wig, to next to nothing.

Perry was unable to secure any award nominations this year.

Also taking the stage at the 2013 VMAs was *NSYNC in a much-hyped and much-rumored reunion show. Though the group only performed snippets of Girlfriend and Bye Bye Bye, the fact that they graced the VMA stage for only a few minutes was delight enough to millennials everywhere.
