Just as Starbucks’ Facebook page exclaims (see left), it’s time to “commence happy dance” as you pick up your cup of joe during this morning’s commute. Why? Because fall’s iconic beverage, the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, is back signaling (at least in my eyes) the beginning of autumn. And, in even better news, The Huffington Post reports that the Starbucks “cult classic” turns a decade old this year — anyone up for birthday espresso shots later?

An autumn without a Pumpkin Spice Latte is unfathomable but, according to the Wall Street Journal, Starbucks’ famous fall beverage “almost never happened.” Yep, scary but true. Ten or so years ago when the brewing masterminds developed and market tested 20 possible fall themed drinks, the “pumpkin concept was initially greeted with a meh,” not so great response.

Thank god for the product developers, who saw the Pumpkin Spice Latte for what it really was – the new epitome of fall. As it is now one of the most popular fall drinks, we can gather that their hunch proved correct.

Surprisingly, the WSJ reports that the ingredients that make the drink so popular do not actually include pumpkin at all. But instead, the popular fall beverage is made of “cinnamon, clove and nutmeg spices, combined with steamed milk, espresso, whipped cream and a pumpkin-spice topping.” Hey, we’ll take it.

Unfortunately, Starbucks limited edition $150 “blinged-out” tumbler decorated in Swarovski crystals (in honor of the Pumpkin Spice Latte’s tenth anniversary), has sold out. Tough luck chicas. But, the good news is you can find your own tacky tumbler for cheaper at etsy.

And, for those die-hard Dunkin fans, the Dunkin Donuts’ pumpkin flavored offerings such as pumpkin donuts and lattes have arrived as well. Despite the fact that the fall equinox is 19 days away (and it’s pushing 75 degrees outside), I’m officially over you, summer. With my Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand, I’m ready, once again, to embrace my pale skin and chunky sweaters. Let’s get on with it.
