Rest easy, Apple faithful. Finally after much hype and anticipation, Apple has sent out invitations for its September 10 press event, the likely iPhone 5S release. Having been stuck in the rumor mill for seemingly ever, this is the first bit of confirmation Apple has made regarding the showcase, though it ought to be noted that there’s been no mention from Cupertino as to what exactly Apple will put on display. Recent photo leaks and tradition point to the release of the next-generation iPhone 5S and low-cost iPhone 5C alongside iOS 7.

As much as we’d like to boast the fact that Apple sent us an invitation directly, we unfortunately cannot. The likes of TechCrunch and The Verge–who published that fact ahead of schedule this morning having taken down its original article–received the invite promising that “This should brighten everyone’s day.”

An allusion to something bright, like a dual LED flash perhaps?

Should Apple opt to stick to the timeline of product releases past, we could see the iPhone 5S and plastic-shelled iPhone 5C hit the retail shelves on September 20 when it’s been leaked already that Japan will be making the device consumer available as well. Blackout dates implemented by cell carriers like AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile point to that date as well.

But now that we’ve finally got ourselves a better grip on when the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C will be up and running, here’s what you can expect in terms of specifications for both devices.

Along with sporting Apple’s first ever iPhone color schemes (black, white, gold–champagne?–graphite) the new iPhone 5S to come with up to 128GB of internal storage along with a new 64-bit A7 processing chip, certainly a step up from the A6 which produces less wireless bandwidth.

The iPhone 5S will also carry a 4-inch IGZO display, a 12MP rear-facing camera, dual-LED flash with ƒ/2.0 lens, and a convex home button used to house an authentication fingerprint sensor. Keep in mind that a recent article report thinks the home button will remain concave so be weary. Also be on the look out for 16GB and 32GB internal storage variants and, of course, iOS 7 and all of the features the flagship mobile operating system has to offer.

The iPhone 5C will be similar in size and specs — with a 4-inch display, upgraded camera, and possible inclusion of the aforementioned fingerprint sensor — but is though to have a scaled-back iOS 7 to account for its budget-friendliness. It will also sport a plastic shell in a neon spectrum of colors instead of Apple’s signature anodized aluminum casing.

Be sure to check back with BostInno for the latest information regarding Apple’s upcoming September 10 press event. More specs and photos are likely to leak, despite that fact that Apple routinely keeps its next moves hidden from prying eyes, in the days leading up to the final unveiling. In the meantime, let us know what you think of the new devices and how they’ll fare in comparison to preceding versions and current smartphones.
