This fall, 75 pianos will be installed in public locations throughout Boston, Brookline, Cambridge and Somerville. And here’s the best part: anyone is allowed to play.

Last February, it was reported that “Street Piano’s Boston: Play Me, I’m Yours” had plans to come to the Boston area this September. Tuesday, the announcement was made official according to a boston.com report.

The installation of public pianos by British artist Luke Jerram will commemorate the 75th season of the Celebrity Series of Boston, which has brought various musical, dance and other artistic performances to Boston since it was founded in 1938 by pianist Aaron Richmond.

The City of Boston; the Rose Kennedy Greenway; Museum of Fine Arts; Boston Art’s Academy; the Harvard Office of the Arts; the Prudential Center; and other partners will host the pianos from Friday, September 27, through Monday, October 14.

The exact locations of the 75 pianos will be announced in mid-September.

Local artists and community-based groups will be allowed to decorate the pianos while they are in the area. Several solo and ensemble performances will also be scheduled by the Celebrity Series of Boston.

A kick-off party has been scheduled for Saturday, October 5 at the Galleria at 10 St. James Avenue.

Jerram’s “Play Me, I’m Yours” has been touring internationally since 2008, having already installed over 1,000 pianos across 37 cities worldwide.

By no means am I a pianist. If there’s a piano just sitting there, however, you bet I’ll get my Ray Charles on. It won’t be good. But, like they say: “you miss 1000 percent of the shots you don’t take.”
