President Obama will address the nation Tuesday night at 9pm ET to discuss the latest on Syria and you can watch the live stream below. Significant developments over the last handful of days have drastically altered the world’s state of mind as Syria’s foreign ministers have agreed to an initiative from Russia to surrender its chemical weapons to the international community.

Just this afternoon Secretary of State John Kerry took to a Google+ Hangout to field questions and discuss his attitudes towards the burgeoning diplomacy. President Obama’s remarks tonight will likely bolster these and give insight on how Congress will proceed with or without a military intervention in Syria.

Watch President Obama address the nation about Syria at 9pm ET here:

The President has made it abundantly clear that some kind of armed force intervention has his backing but whether the entire situation will come to blows remains to be seen. In fact, the President remarked “aid that a plan suggested by Russia to have Syria hand over its chemical arsenal to international control could avert American strikes ‘if it’s real,'” says CNN.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin reinforced this notion as well as the initiative by his foreign ministers saying that Syria will only lay down its arms if the United States and those looking to back us in a military strike rescind any threats of intervention and allow the diplomacy to play itself out.

“You can’t really ask Syria, or any other country, to disarm unilaterally while military action against it is being contemplated.”

The White House also announced this afternoon that eight countries have signed an agreement to “support efforts undertaken by the United States and other countries to reinforce the prohibition on the use of chemical weapons.” Today Georgia, Guatemala, Kuwait, Malta, Montenegro, Panama, Poland and Portugal will join the other 25 countries who have already written their proverbial John Hancock.
