Observances began Wednesday morning in Boston as people gathered to remember the tragic events of September 11th. At 7:30 a.m., there was a wreath-laying ceremony at the Public Garden.

The remembrance was followed by an 8:30 a.m. reading at the State House of more than 200 people connected to Boston who died in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon and United Flight 93, which crashed in Shankesville, PA, 12 years ago.

Other 9/11 Events In Boston:

7 a.m.- 2 p.m.: American Red Cross “Day of Remembrance Blood Drive.” Fenway Park.

9:30 a.m.: Commemoration Observation and Amy Sweeney Award for Civilian Bravery Presentation. State House Chamber. Followed by reading of names.

11 a.m.- 2 p.m.: Care packages for members of the military currently overseas will be prepared by volunteers during the fifth annual event organized by the Mass. Military Heroes Fund. Will take place on Mother’s Walk, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, Atlantic Ave. and Milk Street.

6 p.m.: Mass. Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony. Ashburton Park, State House. Governor Patrick expected to be in attendance

7 p.m.: Vigil at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common.
