Mayor Thomas Menino will be honored as a Leading Man by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachussetts at the 22nd annual Leading Women Awards on Nov. 7 at the Sheraton Boston Hotel in Back Bay, according to a Boston.com report.

Ruth N. Bramson, CEO of the local Girl Scouts organization, said the awards help establish models of leadership for its young members.

“Each year Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts honors remarkable leaders who have made a positive impact through their career and in the community,” Bramson said. “The leading Women Awards is a way for our girls to meet great role models like Mayor Menino and for our supporters to learn how Girl Scouts is creating future leaders.”

Menino will be honored alongside Simmons College President Helen G. Drinan; senior vice president of corporate affairs and communications at Boston Scientific Corporation, Sheila Lirio Marcelo; founder and CEO of Care.com Sheila Lirio Marcelo; and senior director of customer experience and services marketing for Kronos Inc., Joy Maroney.

In a statement announcing the Mayor’s honor, the Girl Scouts touted Menino’s “tireless” work ethic and efforts to revitalize neighborhoods through partnerships.

Menino’s wife, Angela, is a former Girl Scout, according to the statement.

All chuckles aside — it’s a Leading Women Awards event, after all — this is a nice honor for a man who in his final months in office is facing down the challenges of a Suffolk Downs casino deal and a billion-dollar housing plan, among others. It’s also another gem in his well-earned and well-worn crown, a decades-long reign that’s sure to prove a tough act to follow for Boston’s next mayor.
