Apple’s new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C pre-orders are on schedule for Friday, September 13, kicking off at midnight on the West Coast, or 3am ET. For those waiting for both devices to hit the retail shelves, the release date is set for September 20. Apple’s flagship smartphones will be available on all major U.S. carriers at that time, some already setting up notifications for reminders.

The Cupertino-based electronics maker debuted its new set of smartphones at a press event on Tuesday, hoping to build upon the success in the smartphone market it essentially created. The 5S and 5C are on the cusp of an Apple direction we have yet to see, one that highlights color schemes, fast processing, and security measures in its innovative fingerprint sensor.

For those leaning towards a pre-order, you’re looking at a $199 price tag with two-year contract subsidy for the 16GB iPhone 5S variant, and $99 for its 5C counterpart. But if you think those are steep costs, consider the early reviews and everything we learned at Apple’s iPhone event.

The 5S comes with a new fingerprint sensor for security measures and authentication purposes, allowing the user to employ their fingerprint instead of a passcode by simply touching the sapphire-made home button. Underneath the hood is Apple’s brand new 64-bit A7 processor working in tandem with tis M7 graphics processor, tailor made to provide the most seamless iOS 7 experience possible.

The 5C is similar in size and scope but not as technologically advanced. The polycarbonate shell isn’t as cheap as it might appear on the surface, though it’s made of one smooth piece and reinforced by steel underneath. The A6 processor is running on current-gen iPhones so it won’t turn any heads, but with the 5C it’s all about color and customization. Coming in neon options of blue, red, white, yellow, and green, the backplates match beautifully with the new non-skeumorphic iOS 7 overhaul.

As mentioned, pre-orders kick off at midnight PT on September 13 and 3am ET. For those staying up late to pull the trigger on either of the new iPhones, let us know in the comments section what you like about the new devices and how you think they’ll fare in the smartphone realm.
