If I say the words – Grill 23 & Bar – I’m fairly certain you would associate them with a steakhouse filled with buttoned-up businessmen. Which… would be pretty accurate. However, the bar at this Back Bay restaurant may surprise you. Plush leather seats and dark mahogany line the swanky Boston establishment giving off a classic, Mad Men feel. And the not-so old fashioned drink menu is sure to bring out your inner sophisticate.

For starters, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bar’s list of “wine by the glass” is quite extensive. If you’re a white wine fan, you’ll enjoy their range of California Chardonnays and French wines. Or if you’re looking for a solid glass of red, then the Cabernet Sauvignon options and Italian red wine selections will be right up your alley. There’s also plenty of bubbly by the glass with their Champagne Sparkling Wine options – perfect for celebrating a new job or birthday.

And now to the good stuff, Grill 23 and Bar’s “Martini’s and Cocktails” list will leave you buzzing with excitement. My recommendations – if you’re girly (no shame) with a margarita fetish, then the “St. Rita” on the rocks will be your jam. This twist on a margarita includes a mix of Patron Silver, St. Germain, Agave and Prosecco. After sipping on this delish margarita wannabe, I can attest that it’s worth the $15 price tag.

And if Whiskey is more your style, then sip on the bar’s “Central Park” cocktail, a mix of Bulleit Rye, Amaro Nonino, Chambord and Bitters. Two words: It’s strong. So make sure you “steak” out your seat early and sip slowly while basking in your own Don Draper glory.
