Boston IS for lovers after all – and now we can prove it. How? By pointing to Credit Donkey’s recent study, evaluating which major U.S. metropolitan areas present the most “promising start” for newlyweds.

Boston ranked 3rd out of 10 as best city for newlyweds – only to be beaten out by Atlanta, GA and San Jose, CA. The study claims that Atlanta offers a big-time “support system for those who’ve gotten hitched” including many meet-ups and lots of events for young married couples. San Jose, the “second best place for newlyweds,” boasts the highest annual mean income.” Oh well, at least we have the T.

Boston advantages? Close to half of all Boston households are married, the divorce rate is an astonishingly low 8.9%, and most residents aren’t working those long and dreadful 40 hour weeks. Sounds pretty peachy to me.

Also, according to the study, Boston has a “soft spot for helping other newlyweds” citing a newly married husband and wife that were “both injured in the Boston Marathon bombings.” The Boston community “rallied together to raise funds for their medical care.” In addition, our state was the first to legalize gay marriage, serving as an incentive for same-sex couples to “begin their married life” right here in the Hub.

So, next time your fiance starts wavering between Boston and anywhere else – just point to the survey. After all, you can’t argue with the numbers.
