In honor of our resident single Boston girl and her love of Netflix, I’ve decided to come up with a list of five fun Boston date ideas inspired by everyone’s favorite romantic comedies. So, here you go.

“Hitch”

This may be one of my favorite rom-coms of all time. My favorite part of the movie is when Will Smith whisks Eva Mendes away on jet skis to visit Ellis Island. While the jet ski’s are probably out of the question, it’s not hard to recreate a similar date right here in Boston. Try taking your soon-to-be sweetheart out to the Boston Harbor Islands (you can thank me later). Having been on this date myself, I can tell you that as long as the weather is great – you’ll have a perfect time. Plan your date like Hitch – and make sure to use this Boston Harbor Islands trip planner.

“Love Actually”

Everyone’s favorite Christmas romantic comedy (yes, I’m looking at you boys) is filled with great Boston dating ideas. Who can really resist little Sam running through the airport in search of his young love, Joanna? Unfortunately, no Boston date idea would involve Colin Firth or Hugh Grant, but one might involve an art show. Remember the Christmas office party scene that took place in Mark’s art gallery? Why not bring a date and check out some SOWA Art District Galleries. It’s a great excuse to hang out and maybe even impress that special person with your artistic expertise.

“Chocolat”

This romantic film will leave craving chocolate (not a bad thing). The movie is about a woman opening a chocolaterie in France. Not holding your attention? The movie also stars Johnny Depp. To recreate this chocolate love hybrid – try taking your date on a Chocolate Walking Tour of Boston. Talk about a great way to spend the day – just make sure he or she doesn’t hate chocolate (but if they do, cancel the date stat).

“Legally Blonde”

It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve watched this film, as soon as Legally Blonde comes on the television, everything stops. This hilarious classic starring Reese Witherspoon, takes place right across the river in Cambridge. The main character, Elle, finds love at Harvard – and so can you. Go for a romantic stroll this fall through the Harvard campus as the leaves are changing. Hopefully, you won’t need to rub John Harvard’s toes for luck. Once your stomach starts to growl, head to the oh-so dimly lit and romantic pizza joint, Cambridge 1, and stare lovingly into each others eyes.

“Fever Pitch”

This classic rom com stars Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon (obviously funny) and focuses on the main character’s love of the Boston Red Sox. It’s a no-brainer that Red Sox tickets are a perfect date idea – but make sure you plan it right. Buy your tickets ahead of time so that you don’t get stuck scalping them last minute (not hot). And head to the Fenway bar, Remys, after for a drink on the rooftop, or grab some grub from my favorite Boston BBQ joint, Sweet Cheeks.
