UPDATE: Boardwalk fire 95% contained; hot pockets could burn for days, New Jersey Gov. Christie says – @AP

A six-alarm fire is raging on the boardwalk of Seaside Park, NJ, having been reported at 2:30pm and still scorching. The entire pier is currently being evacuated. The direct cause of the blaze is currently unknown at this point.

According to NJ.com, the fire ignited at Kohr’s Ice Cream near the boardwalk and was burgeoned by a strong southeasterly wind, catching nearby buildings and kiosks.

According to Seaside Heights Police Chief Thomas Boyd, Several firefighters and residents are being treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but there’s been no mention yet as to how many victims there are.

The boardwalk in question survived the wrath of Hurricane Sandy last year, a superstorm that essentially wiped out the entire Jersey shore. It underwent major repairs but managed endure.

Officials with the Toms River Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, Seaside Heights Police and Seaside Park Fire Department are all on the scene according to the same source, and as of 3:50pm it the fire appears to continue to spread.
