Though Apple users are focusing most of their attention on the upcoming iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, new photos have surfaced of the fifth-generation iPad (or iPad 5) side by side with the second-generation iPad mini (iPad mini 2). Surely many were hoping Tim Cook would introduce the new line of Apple’s tablets at the company’s release event on September 10, but it seems we won’t be graced with their respective presences until possibly October or even early next year.

The photos in question come from GigaOM via Sonny Dickinson who has a penchant for obtaining pre-release photos before the product is launched. Little has been leaked in terms of technical specs, but these new snapshots are the latest in a line of iPad photos that have appeared on the internet in the last couple of months.

It’s thought the iPad 5 will be taking design cues from the current iPad mini, while the next-gen iPad mini will be outfitted with Apple’s signature Retina display. Beside the fact that the screens will measure in at 9.7-inches and conversely 7.9-inches, little else is known of the devices.

The photos of both iPads’ shells don’t depict and FCC regulations or certifications, perhaps indicating the release of both devices isn’t as imminent as initially thought.

As for release date and price, your guess is as good as any. When it came to the iPhones release, Apple scheduled the event using the same timeline it as for iPhones past though they tend to switch it up when it comes to the iPads. That being said, Mark Gurman of 9to5mac is circling the entire month of October on his calendar, expecting the release to happen sometime between the first of the month and Halloween.
