President Barack Obama will deliver a speech today marking the five year anniversary of the financial crisis and you can watch the live stream below at 11:40 a.m. ET. Much of the President’s recent attention has been focused on the Middle East, specifically Syria upon which the United Nations is expected to release a chemical weapons report citing details of the August 21 nerve gas deployment outside Damascus that killed over 1,400 civilians.

The President’s handling of the financial crisis is a polarizing subject for the American public with many still feeling the effects of the national employment rate, which is hovering steadily above 7% and has been, save for some minor fluctuations, and has been for quite some time.

Watch President Obama deliver a speech on the five year anniversary of the financial crisis at 11:40 am ET:

In a statement issued by the White House, Obama “will be joined on-stage and in the audience by people that have benefited from his economic recovery proposals over the last five years including small business owners, construction workers, homeowners, consumers and tax cut recipients.”

According to USA Today, “With the fiscal year set to end Sept. 30, the two sides have not agreed on a new spending plan; some Republicans are also objecting to an increase in the debt ceiling, and seeking to de-fund Obama’s new health care law.”

The White House statement continued no note that President Obama is poised to “discuss the progress we have made to grow the economy and create 7.5 million private sector jobs, and highlight the work we still need to do to strengthen the middle class and those fighting to get into it.”
