Dan Conley’s office is investigating the death of a 53-year-old Somerville woman whose body was recovered Tuesday morning near Piers Park in East Boston, after she fell off a boat.

Boston police were alerted around 4:43 a.m. this morning to a person drowning in the waters off of 256 Marginal St. The body was recovered around 5:20 a.m., according to a Boston.com report.

Citing the authorities, Boston.com reports that the woman had been living with her husband in their boat for the summer. According to statement by Jake Wark, a Conley spokesman, the woman fell into the water this morning and her husband dived in to rescue her. After performing CPR unsuccessfully, the husband called 911.

No signs of physical trauma were noticed during an external examination of the woman’s body, but an autopsy will reveal the cause and manner of death, the statement said, according to Boston.com

The husband was transported to Mass. General for observation and treatment and is expected to survive, according to the statement cited by Boston.com.

State Police detectives assigned to Conley’s office are handling the investigation because the woman’s body was found at Piers Park, which is owned by Massport, prosecutors told the Boston Globe.

Authorities are not releasing the woman’s name, according to Boston.com
