Remember standing in the school cafeteria as a kid when all of a sudden someone yelled “FOOD FIGHT!”… yeah, I didn’t think so. Probably because that only happened in the movies. Well now (finally, as an adult) you get to see a live (albeit mature) food fight take place next Tuesday, September 24.

Taste of the Nation Boston, an annual tasting event hosted by Share Our Strength, has created a “Food Fight” which benefits their No Kid Hungry Initiative. This campaign is part of a national effort to end childhood hunger in Massachusetts and across America by focusing on “expanding access to school breakfast, free meals in the summer and afterschool meals.”

The event will be a battle of the knives as two chefs compete each week for the “best dish” inspired by a weekly theme. Next week, Chef Barry Maiden of Hungry Mother and Chef Matthew Gaudet of West Bridge will battle it out at in South Boston’s, Lincoln Tavern. Tickets are $20 and will include complimentary pizza from Lincoln, a tasting of each dish, two sponsored cocktails and you get to vote for the winning dish.

Kicking off the competition next week, the theme will be “Southeast Asian Street Food.” Future food fights will feature:

Nov. 12th: Tremont 647 vs. Belly “New England Fare”

January 14th: Myers + Chang vs. Lincoln Tavern “Southern Comfort Food”

March 11th: Coppa vs. TBD “Spice Trade Route: Africa to Europe”

Not only will this event be great food and entertainment in exchange for a $20 ticket, but you’ll also be contributing to great cause. So buy your tickets now — eat later.
