I’m pretty sure the last time you did any sort of “deep breathing” at Fenway Park, it was most likely caused by a play at the Red Sox game. But chances are you have yet to experience deep breathing due to Yoga at Fenway Park — or recite the words “namaste” in the presence of the Green Monster.

But tonight the Red Sox Foundation and Equinox Health Club are changing that. The two organizations are teaming up to hold the first-ever yoga session at Fenway Park.

Up to 222 downward-facing dog participants will be attending the sunset yoga class. All proceeds will benefit the Red Sox Foundation and support the Red Sox Scholars and RBI Baseball and Softball programs. Both programs provide youths with greater opportunities. The Red Sox Scholars Program provides college scholarships, tutoring, and mentoring (among other things) to Boston public middle school students. Likewise, the RBI Youth Baseball and Softball Program serve more than 2000 inner city teens each summer to promote healthy choices.

Although the registration costs only $25, each participant at “FenwaYoga” had to commit to raising at least $250 for the Foundation. What was the incentive? Well, besides Yoga in one of America’s most historic baseball parks and helping kids in need, the three top fundraisers will be receiving prizes. Sounds like a home run to me – a great cause in a great park- let’s hope the groups team up for a future encore event down the road.
