Amtrak released a service update saying that Acela Express service will not operate on Thursday, Sept. 26 between New York and Boston. The Northeast Regional service will still operate under diesel power through the affected area.

The Huffington post reports that a high-voltage feeder cable failed early Wednesday in the New York station. The Connecticut Department of Transportation reported several delays, which have spilled over into today. “Tens of thousands” of people are scrambling to find alternative means of transportation as a result.

Additional cars are being added to trains to accommodate for affected Acela passengers, delays of up to an hour are expected.

Acela and regional trains will operate normally between New York and Washington, D.C.

Metro-North and local authorities are coordinating with Amtrak, trying to restore operations as quickly as possible. No time table has been given, according to Boston.com

Travelers who have paid for a ticket but will not travel by regional service today will receive a refund or travel voucher. Some online reservations can be modified or cancelled online or on Amtrak’s mobile app.
